But other states, and plenty of people, say hang on a minute, what about New York, Chicago, and New Jersey.
The two legislators, State Rep. Patricia Dillon, who represents New Haven, and State Senator Gary Winfield, who represents New Haven and West Haven, are ready to push for their favorite food, but so far they have only received about 255 votes on a Change.org petition.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, said: "We all know who's number one!" While New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy told Connecticut's own Gov. Ned Lamont to "stay in his own lane because New Jersey has the best pizza."
Regular folks and New Haven locals tend to agree with the legislators singing the praises of the state's pizza on Twitter.
Mariah said: "Love that my hometown of New Haven is getting its recognition for their pizza, my hometown has always been poppin' and I will never forget where I come from!"
Even veteran newsman Dan Rather is getting into the mix by saying he thinks Connecticut would come in third in the tristate area. Ouch.
The bill itself, which would amend chapter 33 of the state's general statutes is short and to the point: “recognize the contribution of pizza to the state’s cuisine and economy.”
The state does have more pizza restaurants per capita than any other state in the country, according to Zippia.
The website also found residents like their pizza cheesy!
And, some of the oldest pizzerias exist in the state, including Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana in New Haven which opened in 1925.
